As a baseball and softball umpire, my husband, Stan, bears the brunt of comments from players, fans and parents. Behind the plate at a girls' softball game, he heard one mother chant, "We want a new ump!" Other parents quickly joined in. My husband stopped play, removed his face mask and turned toward the stands. Smiling at the crowd, he hollered, "I want new parents. I want new parents!" The harassment ceased.
